PRESTON took maximum points from two home games against Plymouth and Birmingham last week and Ryan Lowe’s side can make it 3 wins in 8 days by beating Rotherham.
North End head to the New York Stadium after winning 6 straight league games since an opening day draw at Bristol City and they look oustanding value at 6/5 to beat the toiling 4th bottom Millers.
Preston North End’s Manager Ryan Lowe[/caption] Raith boss Ian Murray’s side are top of the Championship table[/caption]Rotherham lost away to both Huddersfield and Millwall last week and while they’ve picked up 4 points in 3 home games so far, Preston have been sparkling as they’ve surged to a shock early lead in the Sky Bet Championship.
Preston came from behind to beat a decent Birmingham side on Tuesday and this looks a great opportunity to bank another 3 points ahead of a run of games against West Brom, Leicester and Ipswich.
IPSWICH and LEICESTER appear to be home win material at 7/10 and 4/6 against Blackburn and Bristol City and both clubs looked well worth keeping on side with midweek road wins at Southampton and Norwich.
ARBROATH landed the headline bet at 7/5 last week with a 4-0 win over Airdrie and I’m backing our other cinch Championship benefactor RAITH to beat the Diamonds this week at 8/5.
Ian Murray’s side go to Lanarkshire top of the table after inflicting another defeat on Inverness at my recommended 17/20 and they can extend their unbeaten league campaign to keep immediate chasers DUNDEE UTD at bay.
Jim Goodwin‘s men lost a comedy goal to drop 2 points at home to Morton last week but I’ve been impressed with most of what I’ve seen from the Terrors so far and 19/20 could be value at Inverness with Caley still in transition after Billy Dodds’ departure.
The Campbell twins will love taking 4/1 Arbroath to Firhill to face 4/7 Partick today and 9 points in the bag makes me think the Lichties could be up to securing the 14/5 draw with Dunfermline and Morton looking point apiece candidates too at 12/5.
PORTSMOUTH banked 4 road points with a draw at Derby and a win at Barnsley last week and Pompey can maintain their unbeaten League One home record with a win at 4/6 against a decent Lincoln City side.
The Imps had a blank midweek after a 1-1 home draw against Carlisle last Saturday and John Mousinho’s players look a great bet to keep an excellent run of form going with another win.
OXFORD can put home advantage to good use by beating second top Exeter at a general 3/4 and my third bet in League One has to be LEYTON ORIENT to beat Shrewsbury at 10/11 after taking 4 points on the road at Exeter and Peterborough.
GILLINGHAM have been getting the job done in good style in their recent games in League Two and Neil Harris could have them well set up to win away to Doncaster at 7/5.
The best of the Premier League matches fall on Sunday this week and Sunday’s game at Arsenal could be the last chance to get a decent price about SPURS for a while at an attractive 10/3 with better in places.
LIVINGSTON V CELTIC 12.30pm Sky Sports
Today’s hosts came back from a goal down to bank a fantastic point at Ross County last week and they’re as short as 8/1 in places to inflict a first league defeat of the season on the champions.
A win and 3 draws in 5 games is a typically resolute return for Davie Martindale’s side but Celtic are a best-priced 2/7 to engineer a win and that looks the most likely outcome.
Anderson and Nouble are in good enough form to fancy their chances against Celtic‘s still questionable defence and Celtic to win with BTTS looks fair at a general 15/8.
RANGERS V MOTHERWELL Sunday 3pm
Michael Beale negotiated two major tests against St Johnstone and Real Betis last week and the manager gets another chance to bank points and goodwill at home to the Steelmen.
Stuart Kettlewell’s visitors are 12/1 to knock Rangers off their stride but that looks a tall order after last week’s home loss to St Mirren and the 5/1 draw might be beyond them as well.
Rangers shortened up to 1/5 after getting past Betis on Thursday and Beale knows he has to keep his players winning if Celtic get another big result away to Livingston on Sunday.
ST MIRREN V HEARTS
Scott Tanser’s goal at Fir Park helped Saints stay unbeaten and go clear second behind Celtic last weekend and home advantage can help them beat Hearts at 17/10.
Stephen Robinson‘s players are playing with a belief other sides can only dream about and last week’s win came against a ‘Well side fresh from winning at Tynecastle.
I tipped Hearts to beat Aberdeen at 11/10 but that looked a must win against a poor Dons side and Saints can confirm their lofty league position is fully justified.
HIBERNIAN V ST JOHNSTONE
Nick Montgomery looked to have Hibs home and hosed after an hour at Rugby Park but that point followed 3 at Pittodrie and Hibs are very short at 4/7 to beat St Johnstone.
I tipped Saints to get something from Rangers’ visit last weekend but they took a step backwards after a couple of good draws and it’s no surprise they’re 5/1 with the draw at 3/1.
Nick Montgomery drew first up[/caption]I couldn’t back Hibs against any side at 4/7 until I get a better handle on the new boss but Saints didn’t give me any good vibes either and I’ll sit this one out.
Saturday SINGLE
There’s no way there’s as much between Palace and FULHAM as the prices suggest and the visitors look a value single at 3/1 and better.
Weekend ACCA
Preston 6/5
Ipswich 7/10
Leicester 4/6
Raith Rovers 8/5
Dundee Utd 19/20
A 3-2 England/Scotland split with all 5 teams winning paying out at 30/1.
