Kyogo Furuhashi was linked with a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, but he is still at Celtic and is playing under Brendan Rodgers.
And, according to former Celtic manager Neil Lennon, he has actually got better.
Tottenham Hotspur linked with summer move for Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi
The Scottish Sun reported in June 2023 that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou wanted to raid Celtic for Kyogo Furuhashi.
Postecoglou had only just been appointed the Spurs head coach, and he reportedly wanted to go back to Celtic to bring one of his former players, Kyogo.
Spurs were planning to make a bid of £20 million for the 28-year-old Japan international forward, according to the report.
No bid came.
No move happened.
Kyogo subsequently signed a new contract with Celtic and is still at the Scottish Premiership champions.
And it seems that Tottenham’s reported interest in him has not affected the forward at all, as he continues to do well for Celtic.
Praise for Kyogo Furuhashi
Neil Lennon was impressed by the 28-year-old Japan international forward this past weekend.
The BBC Sport pundit has said that Kyogo is a fantastic player, adding that he has got better.
The forward scored one of the goals for Celtic in their 3-0 win against Dundee at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.
Lennon said about Kyogo on PLZ Soccer, as transcribed by 67HailHail: “I think he is a fantastic player.
“I really think he has made such an impact since he has come through the door.
“It looks like he is getting better, so I am hoping, amongst hope, that he, one stays fit and two makes an impact (against Feyenoord) because he is so important, at the minute.”
The Celtic no. 8 has scored four goals and given two assists in five Scottish Premiership matches so far this season.
Kyogo made 31 starts and five substitute appearances in the league for Celtic last season.
The forward scored 27 goals and gave two assists in those games.
