CELTIC are showing interest in Serbian international winger Nemanja Jovic, according to reports.
The 21-year-old, who has two caps for his nation, decided to leave Partizan Belgrade this summer to explore options outside of his home country.
Nemanja Jovic has won two caps for Serbia but is a free agent[/caption]Jovic had suitors from Saudi Arabia and Turkey but reportedly turned down those advances as he would prefer to remain in Europe.
A number of clubs are understood to tracking the forward in many of the continent’s major leagues.
According to Relevo (via Estadio Deportivo), Aston Villa, Sheffield United and West Ham have been following him as well as Swiss side Basel.
Teams in France’s Ligue 1 and the German Bundesliga are also said to have scouted him.
Celtic have also been mentioned as one of the clubs to have been interested in the player.
However, it’s not known if Jovic was a player the Hoops were only looking at if they weren’t able to secure the services of Luis Palma.
Like Palma, Jovic is capable of playing on either flank or in behind the striker, but his preferred position is on the left wing.
With the acquisition of Palma towards the end of the the transfer window, Brendan Rodgers‘ possible interest in bringing the player to Celtic Park may have cooled off.
Jovic played 25 times in all competitions for Partizan last season, scoring twice and adding one assist.
In total he has made 95 appearances for Partizan with 11 goals.
In addition to Palma, Celtic have Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda, Marco Tilio, Yang hyun-jun, Mikey Johnston and James Forrest in their squad as wingers.
Abada is set for four to five months on the sideline with injury however and has been touted for a move away soon despite signing a new contract. Summer signing Tilio is also on the treatment table at the moment.
Forrest meanwhile is coming towards the end of his career.
Celtic picked up Sead Haksabanovic as a free agent last year but he was allowed to leave on loan to Stoke this season after rarely featuring in recent times and subsequently had a public outburst on social media over his (lack of) game time.
